liveHarmony update

July 27, 2003

As you may have noticed, liveHarmony is going to only allow Java connections start August 1st.

A Java connection is one made through a chat on a web page.  This means that any chat pages will still continue to work.  People will not, however, be able to connect to your channel (room) with programs such as mIRC.

If you and your users only connect through a web page, you do not need to do anything.

Regardless of what code you used to create your page, we recommend that you consider using our Code Generator to create new code.  Our code generator allows us to make changes to the chat program on our end so you don't have to on yours.  Your current code will continue to work, however.

If you do not have a web site that you host your chat on, you may use ChatWeb.  Just add the channel/room name to the end of the address chatweb.liveharmony.org.  For example, to visit us in #support, you'd go to http://chatweb.liveharmony.org/support.

If you want to switch to code from the Code Generator but keep some params (chat parameters), note that our code deals with params differently:

Your code probably users the following method for doing params:

Our method uses the following:
['foo', 'bar'],
inside the

var lh_params=
[
section.

Code using the first method (QuickChat, in this example) looks like the following:

Get QuickChat Now!

Inside the lh_params section of new code, we would change each (except cabbase and channel, they're handled elsewhere), like so:

['bg', 'FFFFFF'],
['fg', '000000'],
['font', 'helvetica'],
['size', '12'],
['tickershadow', 'false']

For more information on customizing your Java applet, please read SMB3Master's
How To Customize Java Chat Code tutorial.

This may seem confusing at first, so do not hesitate to email us at if you have any questions.

Thank you for your continued support.  We really appreciate it.
